The shellstone panels are held in place with stainless steel anchor clips, epoxy and mortar. The copper panels weigh 1.25 pounds each and are hand-folded and seamed. They are low maintenance, and if left as is, will weather to a green patina in approximately 20 years. The copper panels are 18 inches by 3 feet in size, and are staggered on an 8-inch pattern. These panels utilize a pattern and means of attachment similar to that used by Frank Ghery on his famous Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Copper prices have risen dramatically and to recreate this home as it sits today would be cost prohibitive. The home has over 2,500 square feet of decks. Some of these are Pink Arizona Sandstone with each stone being hand cut to fit with less than a -inch gap on all sides. The wood decks are made of durable Ipe. No end grain of the boards is exposedall the deck panels have breadboard ends, into which the long members are mortised. The handrails and guardrails are custom designed and consist of 3/8-inch plate glass, held in place by custom-made stanchions cut from 3/4-inch steel and capped with a stainless steel tube section. The rails are minimal in their design as to not impede views. There are over 146 windows in the home with the most impressive array of windows in the second floor gallery. It is a curved and faceted window-wall with floor to ceiling glass which is 40 feet long by 10 feet high and features motorized roll shades. The huge expanse of glass, without mullions, is possible because of the heavy red iron frame. IDEAL LOCATION The location of Soaring Wings is unrivaled in terms of desirability. It sits on two residential lots at 202 Redbud Trail, one of the most storied streets in the heart of West Lake Hills. Located within Austin proper, yet its own city, West Lake Hills is heavily wooded and punctuated by hills and canyons, and the beautiful Wild Basin Preserve is nearby. Yet, the distance to Downtown Austin is approximately five miles. The area is also within the Eanes Independent School District, known for its Recognized and Exemplary schools.
