Tranquility, privacy, and, of course, that million dollar view, drew the homeowners in to Las Cruces from Seattle. With family already living in the development, they knew exactly where they wanted to settle, so they bought five acres and custom built the home of their dreams.
Planning to make this their forever home (a change in family plans has since pulled them into starting a new phase of their life elsewhere), they designed the home with plans to grow old in it. Everything is designed with ease of access and handicap accessibility in mind. All the hallways are four feet wide and the doors are extra large. Certainly a nice touch for aging concerns, these features also have the added benefit of making the home feel even more of all the things it already is: open, airy, spacious, and bright.
From the inside out, this is a well thought out home built with ease of life and relaxation in mind. The gourmet kitchen is packed with GE Monogram stainless steel appliances including a warming drawer and a bar refrigerator just for drinks. The knotty alder cabinetry includes deep drawers and pullouts for easy access to plates, pans, and appliances.

All these technical elements are tucked discretely into a beautifully designed home with Southwestern styling to match the Land of Enchantment views. The back porch overhangs are adorned with gorgeous herringbone latillas. Timber beams and columns, custom-carved by C&D lumber, bring in a rustic warmth. ItPs all pulled together with architectural details, a desert-inspired color palette, and a wrought iron design that repeats across the home in mirrors, light fixtures, and the entry storm door.
And there are plenty of amenities that make this home not just beautiful, but fun as well. There is an indoor hobby/craft space, conveniently connected to the laundry room, and two garages, each capable of housing four full-sized vehicles. The homeowners use the smaller garage for parking their vehicles, while the second is a mechanicPs dream that pays homage to the auto repair business the couple owned back in Seattle. The 1,200 square foot, heated and cooled space includes an extra 200 amp service for workshop equipment. A door opens onto an RV pad complete with septic, water, and electric hookups.
Between the sprawling entry courtyard, the spacious living area, and the back porch that spans the length of the home, the homeowners have comfortably entertained 50 to 75 party guests.
