Several areas of San Antonio have been going through gentrification for decades and the Alamo Heights School District has been at the forefront all along. Highly desirable for not only schools but for location near both downtown and the northside, incredible shopping, unique restaurants, museums, parks, the zoo and much more plus lower tax rates, beautiful homes and quietness. Yes, it is really quiet (at least on Wiltshire after hours). Terrell Hills is a city of it's own and has had a mayor since 1939 and was incorporated in 1957. However, it was originally developed by businessmen who named it the Terrell Hills Community after 1919 when they purchased some of the land from Dr. Fredrick Terrell. The history is a little colorful in that San Antonio did then what it does today. Annexes outside areas that don't need it and that happened in 1945 but after a court battle, San Antonio lost and so Terrell Hills was and still is it's own little city. The Home: Originally, the home was built in 1956-57. It was stylish for its time as were most of the homes of Terrell Hills. Time took it's toll and the small rooms, little steps both up and down and amenities became less than attractive. In 2014, the home was purchased basically for the lot value and the vast majority of the original home was raised. The new home was professionally designed by a local renown architect, the existing and new foundations were engineered for the home and the soils of the area and the project began. What is standing today is an incredible value for not only the area but simply as it is. Beautiful, unique, functional and timeless. Three or Four bedrooms, each with a full bath plus another half bath near the entry; One or two living areas, one downstairs and the other upstairs with a full bath and large closet area; Three car garage that is finished out and insulated; Large backyard with a large wraparound deck and of course, there is more. First Floor: In addition to being level with no steps, it is beautifully appointed with wood and tile flooring in the high traffic areas and carpeting in the three bedrooms. The Entry: As you enter the thick, large custom doors with their equally fine hardware, you will be taken aback by the over two story height of the entry area. Beautiful tile plus the very custom open staircase and the custom lighting and finishes prepare the visitor for something nicely unique. One thing you will notice once inside is that what had looked like a very exposed inside is in fact, very, very private. Kitchen, Dining and Main Living Area: To keep up with the desires of today's buyers, the home has been made very open with the kitchen being the center of attention. Not only does this kitchen have a very large number of upper and lower cabinets with massive slabs of matching granite fabricated to perfectly fit them, there is also an even larger island with even more cabinets, a breakfast bar and an additional matching sink. The appliances are no less impressive. Whether you love to cook or just want to look like you do, this kitchen comes equipped with a high end stainless steel dual fuel range with a convection oven (electric), second oven (electric) and a five gas burner top plus a matching hood with multiple speeds and great lighting. Of course there is a matching dishwasher but there is even more. Included with the home is a side by side 39 cubic feet refrigerator freezer (somehow it is also energy star rated). That is still not the full list. There is a beverage cooler that you can set to the perfect temperature of whatever beverage you desire. Still, for such a large kitchen area, you have an equally large walk in pantry with lots of permanent shelving and electrical outlets for appliances you may not want to display but want handy. And there are shelves for displaying your favorite items and lots of them. From the kitchen you have an area that can serve as either a small living area or a large dining area (your choice). In addition to the wood flooring, there is a massive stone fireplace and mantle with gas logs (you can burn wood also) that have a remote control which is awesome to those of us who get tired of buying logs, hauling them in, starting fires and then having to clean the mess up. Also from the kitchen is the main living area which is large enough to handle a small crowd. There is a stone wall that contains built in electrical for you large flat screen television. The main living area has the ability to allow in a lot of natural light due to three sides being exterior walls with windows that allow views of the wraparound deck and backyard. The Master Suite: Nothing like the setup of fifty years ago. Secluded and away from the other bedrooms and living areas by way of a naturally lighted gallery with built in shelves and lighting. It's own separate wing. Behind the door awaits a spacious room with cathedral ceiling, repurposed wood back wall plus a large well appointed bath and very spacious closet area awaiting your custom finish according to your needs and desires. The Master Bath: In addition to the custom ceramic tile walk in shower, there are separate vanities, private water closet and the center piece: a solid acrylic free standing tub and a faucet and wand system that can't be described by words alone (nice). Bedrooms 2 & 3: Both additional bedrooms are spacious and both enjoy full master bath like bathrooms with one having a tub/shower combination and the other a walk in shower. They enjoy being separated from the living areas by a short hallway. The Utility Room: Located behind the kitchen area and just past the large pantry is the utility room. Not just a room with some cabinets and a sink. This utility room has those but also a brand new front loading washer and matching dryer. In other words, this home is ready to move in and live in. The Garage: From the outside you see a very nice door but when the near silent automatic opener reveals the inside, you see something that is nice to come home too! Beautifully finished flooring, finished walls and ceiling, insulated garage door, a 3rd car space! and if you look closely, an outlet to attach your charger to for your future plug in car. Upstairs: First, we have to describe the stairs as they are beautiful, designed to be easy to climb and wide enough for people to pass each other without turning sideways. Just look at the photos. Then you have the re-purposed wood wall that can be seen from outside and looks great from both a distance and close up. As you enter the upstairs living area you can't help but get a great feeling of space. This room makes for a great 2nd living area for anyone. With it's cathedral ceiling, plenty of lighting, large walk in closet and fully appointed bath, this room could easily be a second master bedroom (or a main master bedroom of most homes). Also, there is a great view of the backyard and a balcony for which you can go out and take it in. The Backyard & Deck Area: Unlike fifty years ago, the backyard is now a very private and secluded spot with it's privacy fence, large mature trees and the massive deck that takes you there. Not only is the backyard large enough to handle a large pool and landscaping, behind the privacy fence is a large alley to easily access the backyard to put in the pool of your dreams without messing up the front yard. The deck has some hidden features like electrical for landscape lighting and plumbing to deliver natural gas to an outdoor kitchen (if you so desire).
