Historical marker commemorating the opening in 1912 -- the year of the Titanic tragedy -- as "Hotel Dallas". Several different names were used over the years. During its heyday between the mid 1970s and the mid 1990s it was called "The Farris 1912'' and played host to an international clientele, including many celebrities, who came during the waterfowl season to Eagle Lake -- "The Goose Hunting Capital of the World"(Incidentally, the three best bird watching areas in the U.S. are all in Texas and Eagle Lake is one of the three.). It is now called "Wessex Hall" after the last Anglo Saxon kingdom to survive the Viking invasion and then grow into what became England. (Part of a business plan strategy which has not been implemented because of the owner's critical health condition which has forced this sale.)
